The Washington Post just endorsed Angela Alsobrooks. They, like us, know that she is the best candidate to defeat former Gov. Larry Hogan in the general and that she will be an outstanding US Senator for years to come. The Post joins Gov. Wes Moore; a majority of the Maryland Congressional delegation, including Sen. Chris Van Hollen, former House Majority Leader Steny Hoyer, and Rep. Jamie Raskin; US Senators including Patty Murray, Kirsten Gillibrand, Raphael Warnock, and Cory Booker; and the Congressional Black Caucus in endorsing Angela’s candidacy.
With less than a month until the Maryland Senate primary on May 14, Angela is within the margin of error in a key poll, closing what had been a 20-point gap at the beginning of the race. This is particularly impressive as her opponent, Rep. David Trone, officially became the largest self-funder in history for the primary alone. Right now, Angela is being outspent on air by Trone more than 13-to-1. She doesn’t need to match Trone’s spending, but she does need our support to get her over the finish line in this race. You can watch the two of them face off in the first debate of the campaign live this evening at 8 pm ET via this link.
The prominent Cook Political Report noted this week that Hogan is doing well among African-American men and Angela is the candidate that can best help cut down this margin. They also believe that the early polling numbers are a bit of a “red mirage” and Hogan needs 30% of Democratic voters to back him, a highly unlikely number when control of the Senate will be on the line. Thus, they are keeping the race rated Likely Democrat.
We wanted to share all of these updates and emphasize the important role our network has played and can continue to play in this race. Even if your group has already hosted Angela, we encourage you to consider giving to her again. Click here to donate.
This is the ultimate David vs. Goliath race. Except in this instance, instead of David Trone we have Angela Alsobrooks — an amazing, qualified, Black woman who could make history as only the third Black women elected to the Senate. We know the support from our network can help make Angela Alsobrooks the next US Senator from Maryland.
