While the most vulnerable Senate Democratic women incumbents were vastly outraised by their vulnerable male incumbent counterparts in the first quarter of 2022, the picture is different on the non-incumbent side: women are keeping pace with non-incumbent male candidates in similarly competitive challenger and open seat races.
Rep. Val Demings raised $10 million in the first three months of 2022, outraising Florida Sen. Marco Rubio’s $5.8 million haul during that same period. She’s starting her second quarter with $8.2 million in the bank.
In North Carolina, former Chief Justice of the state Supreme Court Cheri Beasley raised $3.6 million in the first quarter of the election year, placing her squarely in line with her male counterparts, including Rep. Tim Ryan of Ohio, John Fetterman of Pennsylvania, and Alex Lasry of Wisconsin (with $4.1 million, $3.1 million, and $3.9 million raised, respectively). She wrapped up the period with $5.1 million on hand.
Within the same fundraising period in Wisconsin, Sarah Godlewski raised $2.1 million, including a personal loan of $1.5 million. She raised more in individual contributions ($600,000) than Alex Lasry, one of her competitors who raised $450,000 in individual contributions and reported a personal loan to his campaign of $3.5 million.
